Increasingly, global health communication has been recognized as a key discipline in advancing health and human rights and promoting behavioral, social, organizational and policy change. This presentation focuses on why health equity matters in health communication and highlights the role of communication on improving population health and patient outcomes. It also features key elements of a proposed paradigm shift to a health equity and human rights-driven approach to global health communication research and practice during COVID-19 and beyond.
Dr. Renata Schiavo, PhD, MA, is a health communication, public health and global health specialist. She is the founding president and CEO of Health Equity Initiative, a nonprofit organisation. She is also a Senior Lecturer at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, Department of Sociomedical Sciences.
