Introduction

EU-H2020 RUC-APS (Risk and Uncertainty Collaboration – Agriculture Production Systems) is a €1.3M research project initiative which involves the Humanities & Social Science, Science & Engineering and Health & Life Science Faculties. This project involves 7 countries (UK, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Chile and Argentina), leading to international research and impact within an unprecedented innovative and multidisciplinary consortium cross-faculty at the University of Liverpool Management School involving Faculties of Humanities & Social Science, Engineering & Science and Health & Life Science.

Aims of the project

RUC-APS aims to enhance and implement Knowledge-based ICT solutions within high Risk and Uncertain Conditions for Agriculture Production Systems.

Objectives

RUC-APS has a list of twelve objectives, divided into Scientific and General Objectives. An example of a scientific objective is to model and optimise smarts and innovative collaborative production-transport planning solutions of horticulture products across the full value chain structure. An example of General Objective is to establish collaborative mechanisms for long-term partnerships between European and South American researchers and Institutes. To see all objectives, we suggest the reader visit: www.ruc-aps.eu/objectives

Secondments

Secondments are a crucial part of the project, where a researcher visits a farm or a farmer visits a University. In the secondment occurred during August of 2018, the Institute of Risk and Uncertainty has received some managers of Serviverde, an Agriculture cooperative in Argentina. In order to collaborate and learn from the project of RUC-APS, the lectures, meetings and workshops had addressed:

  • Key Decisions to manage national and international trade of Agri-Food commodities.
  • Impacts from international regulation uncertainties into products costs, traceability and quality.
  • Gather the up-to-date Agri-Food Policymaking requirements to support uncertainty.
