The Study Group is an opportunity for industry to gain access to UK excellence in the fields of mathematics, statistics, engineering, and computer science. The structure of the Group allows for this to be done in a structured, intense session over three days.
The Risk Institute was chosen to host the first two Uncertainty Quantification & Management Special Interest Groups (UQ&M SIG) study group with industry. The purpose of the study groups are four-fold. To help companies with established UQ programmes refine their approaches, to help companies new to the field understand the benefit that UQ&M could have on their operations, to expose UK researchers to the kind of challenges UK industries wish to apply UQ&M to, and to enable a cross-fertilisation of ideas between disciplines (data scientists, statisticians, numerical analysts etc.).
The UQ&M study groups with industry were a great success, they brought academics from all across the UK together building a strong community of researchers working in the space; it became a proving ground for industrial-acedemic collaboration, leading to a number of ongoing interactions; and a powerful educational experience for the junior researchers in attendance.
Based on the success of the first two study groups with industry supported by KTN (Knowledge Transfer Network), the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty at the University of Liverpool is delighted to continue this model. The Risk Institute plans to host two further such events a year.
Upcoming events will be posted on this page. If you are a UK academic wishing to participate in one of these events, or if you would like to be added to the mailing list to receive updates please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
